Are You A Leader? Wanna Be?
I don’t care what you do for a living, where you live, where you grew up or who YOU think you are. You are a leader! I was very moved today to hear this interview with leadership expert and mentor John C. Maxwell. If you haven’t heard of Mr. Maxwell, I suggest you Google him as soon as you’ve heard this interview. He is a New York Times best selling author, and one of the world’s most renowned experts in the field of leadership.
I think you will gain great value from his interview with Darren Hardy.
This interview may change many of your perceptions about what you thought leadership was and is.
I hope you gained some value out of that interview. The truth is, leaders are not born, they are made. Life is a series of choices, and you can change any outcome you want by simply making decisions today. My goal and the goal of my team is to HELP you grow and succeed.
Back when I was an instructor for the airline, I used to tell my students, “I’ll bring a wonderful dinner, a beautiful table setting, heck, I’ll even bring a great bottle of wine. But you have to bring an appetite”. I work tirelessly to find ways to help people succeed, but they have to want to succeed first.

If This Doesn’t Move You, I Don’t Know What Will
One of the folks on The 90 Day Challenge just posted this story, I am reposting it because it is extremely moving.
My Body By Vi “Why”…
Ivette Maymi
5’10”, 138 lbs., lean, fit, and full of energy…that was me not so long ago. So what happened? How did I, who was used to walking hours on end in the hot sun and not break a sweat and then walking the fashion runways when I modeled, end up barely being able to catch my breath after going up a flight of stairs?!
Not soon after I got married in 2005, I suffered a terrible miscarriage that left me depressed, angry, seeking comfort through food and thick around the middle. I wish I could say I snapped out of it quickly, but this lifestyle and depression followed me for about 4 years or so. See, women who have been through this experience can tell you that even though your baby is gone, your body is still shaped and functioning long after as if there were a child present. The recovery is a brutal one. Well, in late 2008, I grew more and more frustrated with my appearance. I had gone from a size 8 to a size 12 in jeans and couldn’t wear any shirts or blouses under an XL. I felt the only modeling I would do at this point would be plus sized modeling. I began to give up. I had made up my mind that 2009 was going to be different. That when the New Year rang in, so would my diet! Well, a month into it I was in a bad car accident where I was rear-ended while stopped at a light. I was rushed to the hospital and later found I had suffered a double herniation in my neck and back….that’s where the gym exited and physical therapy entered. As life would have it, my husband and I were blessed with the knowledge that we would be parents again (though we couldn’t understand God’s timing)! Being in physical therapy was hard enough without adding the pregnancy to it…but I smiled anyway because after our loss, we were given a son!
Caleb was born October 2009 and I grew to a whopping 205 lbs. by the end of my pregnancy…oh but wait! There’s more! See, Caleb was a HUGE baby…I had to have an emergency C-section after 20 hours of labor because the umbilical cord was wrapped around his little neck. After a 5-day hospital stay for the both of us, I returned home knowing that after the accident, the pregnancy and the C-section, working out and losing weight (because I was breast feeding) would not be likely. Fast forward 6 months and tack on to all of this an emergency gallbladder surgery…yep! I was DONE!!!!!
So now with my son 16 months old, I got to that place where I said ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! There HAS to be something out there, someone who can help me! I could feel the anxiety and the depression mounting. I grew weary of going places and having people ask me how far along I was, and why I had chosen to have a baby so soon after my son!! Those comments through me into a tailspin! My fear was that my 13 year old daughter would see my unhappiness with the way I looked and mimic those feelings about her own body. I needed to be smarter than that….
(Enter Rick Herbst)…
This challenge was presented by someone I had grown to respect and admire and who had already given me over the past year some really solid advice. Emmy winner or not, this man was a dependable source, I felt. I struggled with doing this challenge for all the obvious reasons…didn’t want to spend money (when really I was actually saving money!), and I didn’t want to reach the end of it and be disappointed as I had been by all of these other diets I had tried in the past.
I am at Day 17 of my challenge. I lost 6 lbs. the first week alone, and now I’m at a 10 lb. loss in under 3 weeks! To me, this is unreal! It is beyond incredible! The other day, I noticed my size 12 jeans were sagging….I grabbed in desperation a pair of size 10 skinny jeans that had been collecting dust in my drawer and BEHOLD!!!! They fit!!!!!!!! That’s right….2 jeans sizes down and that’s all I needed to realize that this Challenge was for me! The energy I have is through the roof! The peace of mind I experience daily as I go through my regimen is beyond anything I have ever experienced! I thank God this Challenge crossed my path. I thank God he made a way when I felt there was none.
I am doing this! I am going to be the vibrant and sexy woman I was before circumstances took over! I am going to show others that a healthy lifestyle is as close to them as saying “YES, I WILL!”
We will be live tonight discussing The 90 Day Challenge. 5:30pm PST, 8:30pm EST

Leading The Way
Follow my progress on the 90 Day Challenge that Derk, Rick and I started. This is a reprint from my 90 Day Challenge Blog.
By the numbers, it would seem that my week wasn’t as productive as my first week on the challenge. I only lost 3 more pounds and only a half inch from my waist. However, in terms of other aspects of my Challenge, it was an amazing week. To me the Challenge is more than just dropping a bunch of weight.
Anyone with some willpower can drop weight. We see and hear about it all the time. So and so goes on a crash diet and loses 80 pounds. Within a year they have it back on plus more. This Challenge for me has been about so much more. It’s about a lifestyle change. Forming new habit patterns. Creating a system I can live with the rest of my life where I’m not miserable. Little secret, I’m a pretty decent cook and I LOVE to eat!
So, if you are simply a scorekeeper or a trend watcher, you could look at my progress this week and see that I’m not “trending” very well. But I feel absolutely amazing, I did 6 total hours of cardio this week where I burned 3,840 calories and ran 24 miles.
Most importantly, I am now on a total program that I’m happy with and can live with. I don’t feel like I’m doing without. I used to kind of dread heading to the gym, now I can’t live without it.
Don’t look at the 90 Day Challenge as just drinking a shake or as a “product diet”. I have tried all those, REALLY! This is so much more. It’s not only a lifestyle program, it is a community of people with a common goal. While I think many of us would like to think we are “Mavericks”, humans, to a certain extent, have a “herd” mentality. That’s why teams are so much more effective than individuals. This Challenge works for a lot of reasons, but one of the most important elements is the group of like minded people all headed towards a common goal. And the connection we have all formed through our online, social network.
It’s funny how we have all become so skeptical to absolutely anything new. Especially things that are good for us. Maybe it’s the constant bombardment of advertising that we have to endure. As I’ve talked about my journey on the Challenge, I’ve really tried to speak softly and let my actions speak louder than my words. This has become an all out mission for me, and I will set the standard and lead the way so that my Challenge can become an inspiration to others.
No matter how much credibility you have, even your best friends will sometimes question you. I’m on a mission to prove that the 90 Day Challenge can be a lifestyle fit for anyone who wants to commit. My own life is becoming the “walking, breathing testimonial” to that.
Please comment on this blog and let me know what you think. I realize I’m really throwing myself out there, it isn’t always a very comfortable place to be making change in one’s life. More than anything, I just really would appreciate everyone’s support on my journey!
